The girls have had a great day and got all their work done in a good amount of time. Its nice to finally see them so happy about learning again. I had gotten so tired of public school. Their policies and even they say they are against bullying they are not. My daughters were hit and teased on a daily basis but nothing was done or said to the bully. Their motto was to "ignore it away". My children would complain to their teachers to no avail. I finally went in and said look something will be done or my child will have no choice but to defend herself. They then told me if they did they would be put in ISS. Well what about the kids that were hitting and hazing? Nothing for them? Of course not that would hurt their ego, it would be a race issue or whatever excuse they could come up with.
Finally after a week of being hit and pinched and ruffed up my oldest snapped and beat the bully to a pulp. You guessed it! She got in trouble. I found out as I was picking her up from school. That they "would deal with her on Monday". I said oh hell no. You will deal with me now. After a long drawn out heated conversation and stating if they had done their job in the first place this would not have happened. They said they had no idea what was going on. There is where I caught them in their own lie. I said no, I came up here every single day and told you about this kid. YOU SPECIFICALLY; and you said you would handle it. You failed at your job. It was then I decided no more running from school to school. I would homeschool.
I was terrified but determined not to send my children off to literally fight for their education on a daily basis. I was scared but I was tired of seeing my kids miserable. I would take the leap. I found a wonderful curriculum online that was hands on books only. No online work. And I found out we could have our own schedule! It was almost too good to be true! I then tested my kids out. They tested out a grade ahead of where they actually were. So now I have an 8th grader and a 6th grader. We have been homeschooling since February and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Granted K-4th I would agree is socialization skill building but the rest of it is blatant crap.
If you are considering home schooling please there are tons of resources. If you are concerned your kids will not get a diploma, walk across the stage or have a sense of comraderie with their classmates you are incorrect in your worries! There are so many groups and there is even a place here in NC that gets together and puts on the whole graduation production for homeschoolers! Please reach out and ask!
